چکیده

Several studies have shown that large wood has a prominent role in habitat quality, however there is little research on the role of wood on pool characteristics and other habitat components in low gradient streams (channel slopes less than one percent). Longitudinal profiles are used to analyze general residual pool characteristics of three approximately 1000meter stream reaches with similar stream and watershed characteristics and vastly different large wood loadings (759 vs. 329 vs. 39 m/ha). This study devises a new classification methodology to subdivide long pools, due to different formation mechanisms and physical barriers within pools. Shallow long runs at the start or end of pools are also removed because the do not represent pool habitat. Higher large wood loading is associated with decreased individual pool lengths, maximum depths, and longitudinal residual pool areas. Greater wood loads however increase reach percent channel in pools and pool frequency. Cumulative reach longitudinal residual pool area per 100 meters and mean thalweg depths did not vary between the study reaches. Bedrock pools had greater pool lengths, maximum depths, and longitudinal residual pool areas than pools formed by large wood. Bedrock pools also had more complex bed topography than large wood pools, but had no difference in pool edge rugosity.

Influence of Stream channel morphology and in-stream habitats on fish community in Golestan province Streams

Four streams with different sizes were selected for studying the effects of environmental factors on fish assemblages using indirect (Detrended Correspondence Analysis, DCA) and direct (Redundancy Analysis, RDA) gradient analysis in Golestan province. DCA of presence-absence and relative abundance data showed well gradient and linear model of species variability. In the within-site RDA, environ...

Effects of Introduced Small Wood in a Degraded Stream on Fish Community and Functional Diversity

Though the effects of introduced wood on fishes is widely studied for salmonids in upland coldwater streams, there are few studies on this topic conducted in the Coastal Plain of the southeastern US. This research gap is problematic because the introduction of wood is a critical component of efforts aimed at conserving the threatened fish diversity of the Coastal Plain, but managers lack data o...

Large Organic Debris and Anadramous Fish Habitat in the Coastal Redwood Environment: The Hydrologic System

This research on effects of large organic debris on stream channel form and process relevant to anadromous fish habitat was along three lines of inquiry. First. new ways to evaluate discrete hydrologic environments, such as pools. riffles and debris accumulations were developed .. Experiments completed provided basic data to test a model useful for predicting hydraulic geometry of pools and rif...

Streambank erosion hazard analysis by BEHI method, case study: Sajadroud stream, Mazandaran province Extended Abstract Introduction River bank erosion is a complex natural process and plays an important role in the dynamic equilibrium of the river. The amount of river bank erosion affects the river plan, cross section and dimensions of the river and is the main factor controlling channel mig...

Propagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields

A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...
